How to Save Money by Making Homemade Wedding Favors

by Coreen Christobel

Even if you have to have a wedding on a budget, it doesn't need to LOOK like one. If you cut corners, no one need ever know. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is with well-done homemade wedding favors.

Party favors are common at weddings, since it's expected that guests will be able to take something back with them. Often, this is just a token remembrance of the day. As such, it's easy to make them yourself!and in the process, you can make something your guests will find useful.

The craft store is the first place you want to start. Most craft stores have a few aisles dedicated to wedding ornaments, decorations, and favors. If you spend some time looking through the aisles, you might get some ideas. To make your own homemade wedding favors, here are some ideas to get you started.

Candles - Purchase some floating white candles by the box; go for the rose-shaped ones. Buy some ribbons that match the colors of your wedding and tie them in a bow around the candles. Add a faux flower. Make them even more special with a tag that thanks your guests for being there on your special day.

Potpourri - Look for some nice, small containers that will complement the colors and theme of your wedding. Fill each container with potpourri, which you can buy in large bags.

Photos and frames - Often, you can find large amounts of small, cheap wooden frames (wallet-sized, 3x5, or 4x6). You can dress them up with a coat of paint, or embellish them even further with craft items such as beads and lace. Put a picture of you and your fiance in each frame.

Many of your guests will keep the photo in the frame once they get home, especially close friends and family. Distantly related guests can decide to use another photo in the frame.

These ideas are just a few of the hundreds of options available to you for homemade wedding favors. If you still need more ideas and a trip to the craft store doesn't get your creative juices flowing, do some Internet searches. You're sure to find great ideas somewhere.
